The Monaghan and Koehlar families are proving that water is indeed thicker than blood. On Saturday, June 20th, they’ll be remembering Jim Monaghan with the ultimate tribute: a Poker Crawl led from bar to bar throughout the French Quarter by a parade that would have made him proud.
Five-Card Stud * Second-Line
Big Easy Roller Girls * Bagpipes
Kicking off at 13 Monaghan, participants will receive their first card before following the bagpipes to Molly’s at the Market, Jim Monaghan’s flagship bar. The third and fourth cards are dealt at the Boondock Saint and BBC, and by the time the parade hits Erin Rose participants will have a full hand to be judged.
In addition to getting commemorative t-shirt with each hand played, cash prizes will be awarded:
Best Hand - $500
2nd Best Hand - $250
3rd Best Hand - $150
Worst Hand - $100
In memory of Jim Monaghan’s generosity and grassroots commitment to helping children, all proceeds will be donated to the Youth Rescue Initiative. A local non-profit headed up by Jim Bernazzani, former FBI Special Agent in Charge of the New Orleans Division, the Youth Rescue Initiative is honored to receive this support of their mission of “Empowering the Children of New Orleans”.
To quote Jim Monaghan:
"What the French Quarter needs is asses on chairs"

01.07.2008 - BCS Championship
Molly’s at the Market and 13 Monaghan welcome the fans of the “Battling Buckeyes” of The Ohio State University to New Orleans! We wish the Buckeyes all the best in the upcoming national championship game. While New Orleans is my home, my family’s roots reach back to Ohio. My father was born in Zanesville and I still have family in the Columbus area. To say the least, I was indoctrinated into the Buckeye Nation from an early age.
For example, when I was a boy spent several summers visiting with family, who lived outside of Columbus. During those visits it was very common kids to spend afternoons replaying Ohio State/Michigan games -- both real and imagined. To the best of my recollection – the Buckeyes always won those backyard skirmishes with “that team up north.”
When you are out enjoying this historic city, please feel free to stop into Molly’s at the Market and 13 Monaghan, enjoy a libation or two, and maybe – just maybe -- you will meet someone wearing Scarlet and Gray willing trade some Wolverine jokes.
Go Bucks!
Jim Monaghan
